Project Aware

The Project AWARE Foundation conserves underwater environments through education, advocacy and action.

Conservation begins with understanding the need to protect waters necessary for life. Each year Project AWARE introduces a new public awareness and education campaign to address environmental issues and involve individuals in solutions. Project AWARE also teaches enthusiasts how to sustainably interact with aquatic resources and apply these skills to conservation. The Project AWARE Specialty course will teach you about some of the most pressing problems facing the world’s most fragile and important aquatic ecosystems and everyday actions you can take to help conserve them. It’s informative, interesting and most importantly, you learn how to make a difference.

You will learn about:

  • The ocean commons and coastal zone issues
  • Fisheries challenges and sustainability
  • An overview of the coral environment and its inhabitants
  • The role of the diver in helping to protect aquatic environments

The AWARE - Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course teaches divers, snorkelers and nondivers about the vital role of coral reefs in the marine environment. The course also familiarises participants with the current state of the world's coral reefs and how they can help.

On this course you will learn about:

  • An introduction to the Project AWARE Foundation
  • Covers the importance of coral reefs to marine ecosystems and coastal areas
  • Coral reef biology, association and competition
  • The status of the world's coral reefs
  • How participants can help, including responsible diving and snorkeling practices
  • Minimum Age
  • There are no dives and no age limits
  • Duration
  • Course durations vary, but each can be completed over one afternoon
  • Prerequisites
  • There are no prerequisites, the course is open to anyone who wants to learn. Divers and non-divers alike can enjoy learning about the aquatic environment.
  • Cost
  • POA
All you'll need... Learning materials, Instruction, Certification fees and Certificate or Card on completion.

Please note: Transportation to sites, dive site entry and boat charter costs (if applicable) are not included in the price.
